19 Jul What to See in Taganana? Guide to Anaga’s Most Authentic Village
Taganana is, for many travellers, the most authentic and spectacular village in northern Tenerife. Hidden in the heart of Anaga Rural Park, this small rural settlement preserves an almost untouched landscape of laurel forest, dramatic cliffs and unspoilt beaches that feel like a different era.
If you’re planning a trip around the north of the island, here’s a complete guide to what to see and do in Taganana.
How to Get to Taganana
Taganana is about 30-40 minutes by car from Santa Cruz de Tenerife or La Laguna, along the TF-12 mountain road, one of the most spectacular on the island, with natural viewpoints over the Anaga massif.
What to See in Taganana
Church of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves
In the centre of the village stands this 16th-century church, one of the oldest in Tenerife. Its interior altarpiece is a gem of Canarian art and is worth a stop, if only to admire the traditional architecture of the surroundings.
Roque de las Bodegas Beach and Benijo Beach
A few minutes from the village are some of the most photographed beaches in Tenerife. Their rough waters, dark volcanic sand and the rock formations rising from the sea create a unique landscape, perfect for an unforgettable sunset.
Hiking in Anaga Rural Park
Taganana is the starting point for several hiking trails through the laurel forest, one of the best-preserved cloud forests in the Canary Islands. The trails towards Chamorga or Roque de Anambro offer privileged views of the Atlantic and of the village itself from above.
Local Cuisine
Taganana’s small restaurants are known for their fresh fish and local wine, with vineyards clinging to Anaga’s steepest slopes. It’s a great place to stop and try traditional Canarian cuisine with sea views.
