Are you thinking about paragliding in Tenerife and wondering where the flights take off from? Not just any mountain or cliff will do. To guarantee a safe and smooth flight, very strict technical conditions must be met.

Below, we explain what elements are needed for a perfect takeoff and which 3 gems of North Tenerife we take off from.
What requirements does a safe takeoff zone need?
For a tandem paragliding experience to be a perfect 10, the terrain and the weather must work together. An official takeoff requires:
An ideal slope: Forget the idea of “jumping into the void.” In modern paragliding, you take off by simply walking or taking a short run down a gentle slope until the wing inflates and lifts you smoothly into the air.
Headwind: This is the most crucial factor. The wind must blow directly toward the slope to inflate the paraglider easily. If the wind comes from behind or from the side, we professional pilots know it is time to wait or change locations. Safety comes first!
A clear and prepared space: Official zones feature wide areas cleared of trees, rocks, or cables to ensure the takeoff run is comfortable, fluid, and obstacle-free.
The 3 official takeoffs in North Tenerife
Depending on the weather conditions each morning, our team of certified pilots analyzes the wind maps to choose the ideal departure point. These are our three main locations:
1. Izaña Takeoff (Mount Teide) – The giant of Europe.
Altitude: Over 2,200 meters above sea level.
The experience: This is one of the flights with the greatest altitude drop in all of Europe. We take off from the Teide National Park, fly above the spectacular northern sea of clouds, and glide over the entire Orotava Valley. The grand finale is usually a smooth landing on the coast of Puerto de la Cruz. A truly majestic and unforgettable flight.
2. La Corona Takeoff (Los Realejos) – The balcony of the north.
Altitude: Around 750 meters above sea level.
The experience: La Corona is a legendary and perfectly prepared takeoff site, surrounded by lush, vibrant nature. From up here, you have the entire Los Realejos Valley at your feet. We fly close along the protected landscapes of the northern slope, enjoying the stunning contrast between the green mountains and the deep blue of the Atlantic.
3. El Tanque Takeoff – The guardian of the Isla Baja.
Altitude: Approximately 500 meters above sea level.
The experience: Located in the beautiful and authentic area of Isla Baja. This official takeoff offers a wild and radically different perspective of northern Tenerife. Flying here means enjoying towering cliffs, a unique rural landscape, and the pure ocean breeze. It is the perfect choice for those looking to discover the island’s best-kept secrets from the air.
